The German discount retailer Aldi Sued is selling a laptop (Akoya Medion MD 96359) for women from 15 November 2007.
It is similar to other models sold by Aldi. However it features an enhanced shell with 300 Swarovski crystals. It comes in pink/silver and black and with its own handbag. Aldi computers are very popular in Germany and this one retails at Eur 799, about GBP 560. I wonder how it will sell…
As if the world did not have enough pink gadgets in it… I am sure it will sell to a younger demographic but god forbid, can manufacturers use a little more imagination…PLEASE???
I quite agree. I particularly like the fact that this model (and I refer to the laptop, not the blonde used to market it) comes with a “handbag”. Given the fact that the price is pretty economical, I wonder how much of the cost is going towards the accessorizing crystals, and how much towards the actual performance specs of the laptop itself. Or pehaps Aldi don’t feel their demographic really cares, just as long as the aforementioned Swarovski faux diamantes look the part…
One word Ewwwwww….
Now if a company say did a sleek, stylish, light, fast laptop and gave away free laptop bags. (feminine and masculine options) Then they might just get a bit more uptake. But these things have to be functional.
It’s a bit like the whole freebie t-shirts that are given away at conferences… XXL Mens style (usually…)
Again lazy marketing!
Nice work, Bookmarking this now. We’ll see how it goes.
